Review
Sankaracarya arose and once more revivified the Vedanta philosophy. He made it rationalistic philosophy...laid stress upon the intellectual side.He worked out, rationalised, and placed before men the wonderful coherent system of Advaita. In Sankaracarya,we saw tremendous intellectual power.throwing the scorching light of reason upon everything. --Swami Vivekananda.

Product Description

GAUDAPADA, having touched the highest peaks of realization, saw that the ultimate Reality can neither be born nor die, and with the support of the Principle-Narayana was able to reveal for the first time to human beings the Teaching already present in the sruti: Ajativada, the doctrine of "nongeneration", and the Asparsayoga, the yoga of "no-support or no-relation".

In order to enounce the Ajativada and the Aspasayoga Gaudapada chose to comment the Mandukya Upanisad. This Upanisad deals with the three states of Being (Virat , Hiranyagarbha, Isvara) and the Fourth state (Turiya) which represents the absolute Reality. Because of its doctrine and philosophy, it is the most meaningful and profound Upanisad of the Advaita Vedanta and represents by itself the very foundation of metaphysical realization. The Mukti Upanisad says: "If the goal is the attainment of the supreme Truth, the Mandukya Upanisad is altogether sufficient".

Gaudapada divided his commentary (karika) into four chapters. He states that there is an unchangeable Reality, eternal, in act, with no generation and extinction, free of cause-effect and time-space, devoid of contradiction, One-without-a-second. And, as Reality is constant and perfect Unity, all differentiation, multiplicity, impermanence and change cannot be the supreme Reality but only appearance, representation, which acquires reality only when viewed from the standpoint of "opinion".

From the Publisher

The Mandukya Upanisad, of great initiatory interest, acquires greater value through the addition of Gaudapada's karika, some of which are an integral part of the Upanisad.

Gaudapada divides this work into four parts, naming them:

1. Agama Prakarana, based on the scriptures or Sruti.
2. Vaitathya Prakarana, based on the phenomenal or apparent character of experience.
3. Advaita Prakarana, based on non-duality.
4. Alatasanti Prakarana, based on the extinction of the "burning ember".

In it He unveils for the first time, clearly and concisely, the Aspara yoga or vada (path, way), the metaphysical yoga, the pathway which leads not to union with the God-person, but to integral Liberation (Turiya).

About the Author
Swami Dayananda Saraswati is a contemporary teacher of Vedanta and a scholar in Sanskrit in the tradition of Sankara. Swamiji has been teaching Vedanta in India for more than five decades and around the world since 1976. His deep scholarship and assimilation of Vedanta combined with a subtle appreciation of contemporary problems make him that rare teacher who can reach both traditional and modern students. A teacher of teachers, Swami Dayananda taught six resident in-depth Vedanta courses, each spanning 30 to 36 months. Four of them were conducted in India and two in the United States. Each course graduated about 60 qualified teachers, who are now teaching throughout India and abroad. Under his guidance, various centers for teaching of Vedanta have been founded around the world; among these, there are three primary centers in India at Rishikesh, Coimbatore, Nagpur and one in the U.S. at Saylorsburg, Pennsylvania. There are more than one hundred centers in India and abroad that carry on the same tradition of Vedantic teaching. In addition to teaching, Swami Dayananda has initiated and supported various humanitarian efforts for the last forty-five years. The most far-reaching of these is the establishment of All India Movement for Seva in 2000. Awarded consultative status with ECOSOC (Economic and Social Council) by the United Nations in 2005, this organization is devoted to serving people in the remote areas of India, mainly in the field of Education and Health Care. Swami Dayananda Saraswati has also promoted several international events and participated as a speaker in several global forums, among which are: the United Nations gathering of NGO's, the UNESCO Seoul Global Convention, the United Nations 50th Anniversary Celebration, the Millennium World Peace Summit, the International Congress for the Preservation of Religious Diversity, the Conference on the Preservation of Sacred Sites, the World Council for Preservation of Religious Diversity, the Youth Peace Summit, the Global Peace Initiative of Women Religious and Spiritual Leaders, a Hindu-Christian dialogue with the World Council of Churches, and the Hindu-Jewish Leadership Summit.

Product Description
"May the person with discrimination discover dispassion by examining the experiences gained through actions and meditation.Moksa, which is not created, can not be gained through action. Therefore to gain the knowledge of Brahman,he must go,with sacrificial twigs in hand,to a teacher who is well - versed in the scriptures and who has clear knowledge about Brahman" Every upanisad is a word mirror which reveals that the one who is looking at it,is the only one who makes things happen, exist and resolve" -Swami Dayananda

Product Description
The words of the Upanishads are great music, the tunes of which have the power to fascinate the hearts of all sensitive people, century after century. Every one who studies the Upanishads reverently, and in a seeking mood, will realize for himself or herself the charm of their deep profound utterances couched in language, direct and deep, poetic and sublime. A spiritual seeker who reads the Upanishads will feel that he is with a theme that is very close to his life and destiny, a reality which is in himself as well as in the world outside. The deep pulsations of that reality have been caught up in the beautiful music of the Upanishads. Among all the Upanishads, the Brhadaranyaka Upanishadhas a distinctive mark for the vastness and profundity of it's approaches to the riddle of life and existence.

A spirit of serene and passive self-submission informs its interpretations and an auster detachment its criticisms and anaysis. It questions, with persistent consistency, many of our cherished beliefs and seeks to revive some of our lost but lucid visions. And in a style that resists attempts that would draw destinctions between philosophy and literature, discourse and disclosure.

Product Description
The Svetasvataropanisad is considered to be the most beautiful of all the Upanisads, the philosophical texts of the Hindu religion. In this new translation, Devadatta Kali takes a fresh look, and works from a new premise that the Svetasvatara represents a Saivite (one of the Hindu sects) point of view. This he claims, allows its intended meaning to shine forth. The translation and commentary brings to life the seer Svetasvatara, who from time to time delights in provocation and word play, allowing the reader to share the joy of his liberated vision that all this world is an expression of the Divine. This translation aims to capture the seer's ecstatic response to the wonders of creation while pointing the reader towards the even greater wonder of its source. Devadata Kali's purpose in his translation and the commentary is to convey the vibrant immediacy of the Sanskrit original and strip away many centuries of exegetical accretions in order to make Svetasvatara's message heard as he intended--as a statement of profound insight designed to guide, inspire, and enlighten.

Features of the text:

* 13 pages of uninterrupted fl ow of the translation of the Upanisad.

* 6 chapters of the Upanisad in original Sanskrit with English translation and commentary.

* Two appendixes giving the word-by-word analysis of the Sanskrit and a complete tabulation of the correspondences with other texts and internal corresponds within the Upanisad itself.

* Index including bilingual references and major themes by verse.
